OVERVIEW:
Cook I is an entry-level culinary position responsible for assisting with food preparation, cooking, and plating of menu items while maintaining a clean, safe, and sanitary workstation. This role supports higher-level cooks and helps ensure consistent food quality and guest satisfaction.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

- Creates an atmosphere that encourages guests to choose Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Sacramento at Fire Mountain by delivering quality food and guest service.
- Prepares food items including those that are grilled, fried, broiled, baked, boiled, braised, poached, or prepared in the pantry following established recipes.
- Performs basic food preparation tasks such as washing, peeling, chopping, dicing, and cutting vegetables, fruits, and meats.
- Assists Cook II and Cook III staff with meal production and plating.
- Sets up and restocks workstations before, during, and after shifts.
- Maintains cleanliness and organization of assigned work areas.
- Ensures proper food storage, labeling, dating, and rotation using FIFO procedures.
- Cleans and sanitizes equipment, utensils, and workspaces.
- Reports equipment malfunctions, safety hazards, and accidents.
- Assists with special events, banquets, or additional duties as assigned.
- Attends meetings and completes required follow-up.
- Performs work regularly, predictably, and in compliance with safety and sanitation standards.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
High School Diploma or equivalent required. Culinary coursework, apprenticeship, or limited kitchen experience preferred.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Must obtain and maintain all required licenses and certifications per Federal, State, and Gaming regulations.
- Must successfully pass background check and drug screening.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.

- Basic food preparation techniques and line work experience
- Kitchen sanitation standards
ABILITY TO:
- Work flexible shifts and schedules
- Communicate effectively with guests and team members
- Safely use all equipment associated with the position, including but not limited to slicers, mixers, and grinders
